Herbs of Liguria: a mine of virtues

Herbs of Liguria: a mine of virtues

Aromatic herbs are part of our ancient Ligurian tradition. Many of our herbs grow wild in the countryside, and since our cuisine is essentially poor-inspired, the Ligurian people, who have always been particularly creative, adopted them to flavor dishes in place of the formerly very expensive spices.

Today Liguria, and especially the Plain of Albenga, is known throughout Europe for the production of herbs, from the most classic, such as basil, rosemary, sage, lavender, and marjoram, to the most modern and imaginative, such as mojito mint or aftereight mint or pineapple sage.

Over time, some Albenga companies have created ad hoc brands for distribution both in Italy and abroad for our celebrated aromatics.

But what is so special about our herbs? Ligurian herbs are fragrant and particularly aromatic, thanks to our favorable and always sunny climate and to the influence of the mountains and the sea, whose breeze gives them unmistakable characteristics.

Aromatics have many uses: in the kitchen to flavor dishes, in the garden and on terraces to beautify, in herbal medicine for the preparation of infusions or beverages, in chemical industries for the production of beneficial essential oils, in perfumery for the preparation of perfumes, creams, in the medical field … in short, they really have a thousand uses and a thousand virtues!

In cooking they have the great power to impart characteristic taste and flavor, so you can also limit salt.

The colorful and highly fragrant lavender is also counted among the aromatics.

It is a beautiful plant that can be used for ornamental purposes, for its magnificent scent, in cooking in desserts and in cosmetics, with the preparation of lotions, oils, waters and soaps.

This is the peak availability period for herbs. If you pass through the countryside of Albenga, do you smell a scento!!!! Can you smell it from there, too?
