Benedetto Ferro, creator of the Almond Chifferi of Finale Ligure.

It was Savonese Benedetto Ferro who introduced them in the late 1800s, who instead of following the family profession, all of whom were sailors, decided to indulge his own passion for pastry making.
Benedetto Ferro opened his Ferro Pastry Shop in Finale Ligure in 1872 and just think: even today, 150 years later, it is still a landmark throughout the Finale area.
Following the opening of his pastry shop, Ferro fine-tuned the recipe for Finale Ligure Almond Chifferi, soon making them so renowned that they were known and in demand throughout Italy. Today they are counted among the typical Ligurian sweets.

Almond Chifferi Recipe

Almonds, sugar, eggs and orange blossom water: these were the ingredients he amalgamated, calling the resulting sweets Chifferi di mandorla.
Probably, in addition to the name, the origin of the recipe is also Arabic. In fact, it is Arab-Persian the tradition of working almonds with sugar , which he came to know through the travels made by his family and thanks to the trade of the Maritime Republics.
His added value, however, was to personalize the recipe by giving it a special flavor, making these sweets unique and always current.
