Good morning Friends of Pesto Fresco!
Do you want to prepare a lunch or dinner menu featuring Pesto Fresco alla Genovese, but don’t know what wine to pair with it?
Today we recommend an excellent Ligurian wine that goes perfectly with the aroma of basil, the full flavor of cheese and the unctuousness of oil: Pigato di Albenga DOC.
Pigato di Albenga DOC is a young, very fragrant and fresh white wine made from a very pure grape variety. It is characterized by a straw-yellow color, with an intense fruity bouquet and a smooth, balanced flavor.
The Pigato wine labels of Albenga with the best quality are those that have the grapes grown at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, and it is precisely the proximity to our Ligurian Sea that favors the intensity of its fragrance.
Pigato wine from Albenga should be consumed within the first three years of its life and served at a temperature between 13 and 16°C.
A curiosity: it seems that the first Pigato grape variety was planted in Ortovero around 1830, but the wine produced did not begin to be marketed until very recently.
Want to know some pairings for this exquisite Ligurian wine? In addition to trofiette or trenette al pesto, it is ideal with minestrone alla genovese, seafood appetizers, stuffed vegetables Ligurian style, and sea bass Ligurian style.
