Dear friends of Pesto Fresco, today in our news we tell you about the excellent products of our Riviera Ligure di Ponente. These are food and wine products that take Liguria all over the world.
Discover them with us!
Liguria is famous for several food and wine excellences that set us apart in the world, such as Pesto Genovese, but there are others.
Our Riviera Ligure di Ponente, where Loano and our Frasca e Nassa Artisan Workshop are located, is home to some of Italy’s best specialties, such as extra virgin olive oil, some wines, herbs and several agricultural products.
Food and wine excellence: extra virgin olive oil (EVO) from the Ligurian Riviera
It is a world-renowned food and wine specialty of our Ligurian Riviera.
The fruit of an ancient tradition handed down in our countryside for about 2,000 years, it is protected by the Consortium for the Protection of Extra Virgin Olive Oil D.O.P. Riviera Ligure.
It has a unique flavor: fruity, light, fragrant and with a delicate, rounded taste.
It is one of the basic ingredients of Pesto Genovese.

Food and wine excellence: the Wines
Liguria has a thousand-year-old tradition of wine production and is one of the smallest wine-growing regions in Italy.
Extraordinarily stubborn viticulture has developed in Liguria in the characteristic terraced vineyards overlooking the sea. In fact, ours is a difficult land to work, narrow and predominantly hilly and mountainous, but it has rich vegetation both in the higher areas and on the coast, and, adding the influence of the sea, the wine has incomparable flavors.
Our most typical wines are Granaccia, the Pigato, the Rossese and the Vermentino.
Food and wine excellence: The 4 excellences of Albenga (Savona)
Violet asparagus, Albenga artichoke, Cuore di Bue tomato and Zucchina Trombetta are the products of the only plain of significant size in Liguria.
Thanks to favorable climatic conditions and the industriousness and ingenuity of farmers, our area boasts the production of four products of great value. They are the violet asparagus, a unique product in its typicality, the spiny artichoke, so pleasing to the palate as to be defined as “sugary,” the oxheart tomato, with a sweet taste and a pulp with a very pleasant texture, and the trombetta zucchini, a product with an extremely delicate flavor with a very limited availability.
Food and wine excellence: Aromatic herbs
Our production in this area is also one of our major strengths in distribution both in Italy and throughout Europe.
Potted herbs grown in the Albenga Plain, starting with our Basil Genovese D.O.P., have a distinctive and unique flavor, a reflection of theinfluence of the sea and the gentle breeze.
There are many other Ligurian food and wine products that we will tell you about in future news in the Pesto Fresco blog.
Have a great Sunday everyone!
